School Adoption Project (SAP)

Initiated in 1999 in Mumbai, the School Adoption Project is a form of direct intervention with the student body of a formal school to enhance the schooling experience.

The activities, conducted directly in the school, focus on building the child’s capacity to cope and making the school a more attractive place to be.

This project was initiated with 2 major objectives in mind:

  • Preventing children from dropping out of school because of their inability to cope with academics or because of disinterest and apathy.
  • Facilitating the learning process by offering academic and other inputs.

The kind of intervention offered, and the interactive manner in which it is being imparted, encourages the inquiring, learning and retaining processes among the children who benefit from it.

We have adopted 8 Municipal schools (housed in 2 school buildings) so far. Post adoption we have introduced libraries, supportive teaching for those who need it, educational sponsorship, recreational activities, educational visits based on the needs of the student population.
