Visit of the Breman Chowk fire station - Sat. 9 Aug. 2008

What child has not ever dreamed of visiting a fire station?

On Saturday 9th August 2008, Cinta CHEVIGNARD, our French volunteer, made this dream come true and organized an educational visit for the children of Door Step School.
With the help of one coordinator (Shabana Mulani) and two teachers (Jyoti Pawar and Savita Palve), she brought 35 slum children of the Range Hills area to Breman Chowk Fire Brigade Station in Aundh, Pune.
Children were study classes’ students from 1st, 2nd and 3rd Standard.

The aims of this visit were various. We wanted children to learn new things in an innovative and attractive way. They would therefore realize the importance of this civic amenity from which they could benefit.
During the visit, they interacted with the staff and understand their role in the community. The Chief Officer of the fire station also explained to the kids the danger of fire and showed them the fire trucks. We were also entitled to a demonstration of fireguard lance. The children were very impressed and excited!

Later, we went back to Range Hills School and the children were asked to draw something about what they saw. Some of them really made nice and colorful drawings! We also talked altogether about the dangers of fire, the fire in everyday life (in the kitchen…), the fire truck, the firemen equipment… and one teacher gave the fire emergency phone number to the kids (101).
Finally, after some songs, children went back home, with many souvenirs in their mind.

Door Step School is proud to have made this service more accessible for them. Knowledge of how things work in the city empowers them to ask for the service that is due to them.
