Last year, Renu, a Std. II student enrolled in the Door Step School study class in B ward, loved to play truant. Despite having been in school for 2 years she could barely read or write. She hated school work. The Door Step School team needed to call on her every day to bring her to the study class, which was meant to address the need of children not being able to cope with their school work. Perseverance paid off and she did well in the school’s annual exam.
This year another organisation started a study class in her school itself. To encourage children to join their class they distributed a lot of free stationery and uniforms. None of this tempted Renu. She opted to continue attending the Door Step School class and she now has a wonderful rapport with the teacher here.
