Katraj Snake Park - 19th July 2008

At Door Step School, educational visits and excursions are part of our program. It concerns children of all ages: Balwadi children (3 to 6) and NFE children (7 to 18). These activities are very important as they bring new experiences and new knowledge to children in an attractive way. Also, most of them are slum children or migrant children so they never had a chance to discover such things (animals, nice gardens etc).

On Saturday 19 July 2008, one of our trainees, a student from France, organized a visit to Katraj Snake Park and the zoo of Pune. We brought 20 children of the Bloomfield construction site of Sinhagad Road. They were all very excited to see monkeys, snakes, turtles, tigers, bears, peacocks etc... They were even more impressed when the white tiger started roaring loudly and when one peacock screamed.
The children were asked some questions about the animals: what do the snakes eat? How long can an elephant live? etc... So their attention was always attracted.
For lunch, we sat down in a quiet and shady place and children were given some snacks. At the end, they had to come up and sing some songs to their classmates. They finally went back to the construction site with our School on Wheels bus with a lot of ‘souvenirs’ in their mind!
