Last year, Renu, a Std. II student enrolled in the Door Step School study class in B ward, loved to play truant. Despite having been in school for 2 years she could barely read or write. She hated school work. The Door Step School team needed to call on her every day to bring her to the study class, which was meant to address the need of children not being able to cope with their school work. Perseverance paid off and she did well in the school’s annual exam.
Sona Waghela, a 13 year old girl, is now a promising student of the non formal education class at B ward. When Door Step School first entered the community 3 years ago, Sona, was a housekeeper for her family. She was expected to handle all the daily chores that went were needed to run a home.
