Community Learning Center

An opportunity to indulge a child’s curiosity, to encourage learning in a manner our formal education system does not allow: that is the role visualized for the Community Learning Centre (CLC) that came into being in July 2005.

At this centre, brightly colored pictures and books are the focus of many a story telling session and animated discussions. Children move on from struggling to complete their first book to knowingly picking books of the shelves and settling down to many a happy read.

Taking learning beyond what is contained between the covers of a book, children are encouraged to measure themselves, to feel, to weigh, to make things. Children have also been introduced to map reading along with snippets of geography, dictionaries and their use, weights and measures, thermometers and compasses. Opportunity for creative expression through art and craft is not forgotten.

A fixed weekly schedule ensures more effective use of time as 650 children from Door Step School classes in 9 neighboring communities spend an hour a week at the centre.
