Success Stories

Renu , A study class pupil

Last year, Renu, a Std. II student enrolled in the Door Step School study class in B ward, loved to play truant. Despite having been in school for 2 years she could barely read or write. She hated school work. The Door Step School team needed to call on her every day to bring her to the study class, which was meant to address the need of children not being able to cope with their school work. Perseverance paid off and she did well in the school’s annual exam.

Other Achievements

  • Our persistence in requesting the Education Department for additional class teachers for the English Medium school where there are 14 divisions ( Stds. I to VII- morning and afternoon shift) and only 6 teachers, has finally paid off. Two teachers were added this year and the Superintendent has promised that an adequate number of teachers will be appointed in the coming academic year.

Sona from non-formal education classes

Sona Waghela, a 13 year old girl, is now a promising student of the non formal education class at B ward. When Door Step School first entered the community 3 years ago, Sona, was a housekeeper for her family. She was expected to handle all the daily chores that went were needed to run a home.

Subodh and Sakshi from Computer Study Center

  • Subodh Patil, a resident of the community, was a student with Door Step School until July 2004. At that time he would accompany his class to the centre and picked up some computer skills. He left Door Step School to continue conducting tutorials for children in the community as it was a better source of income, however he decided to join one of our computer classes to keep learning.

Biyamma , A kindergarten Pupil

Little Biyamma, a very distraught child who spent long hours on her own, began attending the Door Step School balwadi in July 2004. The change perceived in her after some months of being in the balwadi was remarkable.
